Retired Superior Court judge Juan T. Lizama shot a net 72 to finish in first place in the Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe’s weekly tournament at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course last Saturday to complete an unprecedented “Grand Slam”— winning the tournament four weeks in a row over each of the four 18-hole golf courses on Saipan.

His victories on the previous three Saturdays came at Coral Ocean Point, Kingfisher Golf Links, and the Laolao Bay east course.

No member of the Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe had ever won four weeks running. Making the feat especially impressive is the fact that Lizama is the oldest current member of the club, a fact that he reminded the younger members of multiple times at the 19th hole, held this week at Bags & Beans restaurant in Kagman.

Lizama attributed his recent successes on the links to a new putting stroke “smooth, no more punching” and sanguine outlook “I expect to get a par on every hole”.

The Grand Slam artist continues to defend his title this coming Saturday at the Kingfisher Golf Links. (PR)
