In observance of the Lions Club International’s Worldwide Week of Service in Sight, clubs under the District 204 Region 2 will be giving away free reading glasses on Oct. 10.

The Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club, Saipan Marianas Lions Club, and Saipan Unity Lions Club will be at the Marianas Business Plaza parking lot from 8am to 12pm or while supplies last.

“It’s also one way to give back to our community, knowing how important that we have to protect our eyesight,” said SFALC president lion Annamae Adaza.

According to zone chair lion Mario Mayuga, there will be no eye check so they are hoping that those who want to avail of the glasses should know the type of reading glasses they need.

“The distribution of the reading glasses will be on first-come, first-serve basis,” he added.

The reading glasses distribution is a special international service event to help eliminate preventable blindness and improve eyesight.

The Worldwide Week of Service in Sight, which is celebrated from Oct. 4 to 10, brings Lions around the world together to help friends and neighbors with visual impairments in their local communities.

The project is also an opportunity for SFALC and SMLC to support the Lions Clubs International’s goal of helping 100 million people by its 100th anniversary in 2017.

“We want to share the great things we’re doing in the community, and let others know how they can help,” region chair lion Ladyvir Canape said.
