According to district governor Daniel Yang, Marquez is recently one of the first in District 204 Region 2 to become a Melvin Jones Fellow as acknowledgment of her contribution to LCIF.
“LCIF is able to continue and expand programs through the generous support of Fellows such as yourself. You should take great pride in knowing you will impact so many lives, both in your immediate community as well as across the globe,” LCIF chair Barry Palmer wrote in his letter addressed to Marquez.
The Lions Club also gave lapel pins to 11 members of the SFALC as they were welcomed as new members of the LCIF.
“I am extremely grateful for your club’s support of our foundation through the contributing member program,” Palmer wrote.
The Melvin Jones Fellowship was established in 1973 and is named after Melvin Jones, the founder of LCIF. It is considered as the backbone of LCIF, providing 75 percent of the foundation’s revenue.
Marquez was also given special recognition by Yang for the outstanding membership growth seen during her term. She was able to recruit 18 new members.
“That is quite a record,” Yang said, “With 20 members you can already charter but she recruited 18 members, that’s a great record.”
