Lions Club International Global Membership Team area leader Datuk Nagaratnam and Lions Club International District 204 governor-elect Daniel Yang recently visited Saipan to meet with the club’s Region 2 officers as well as members of the of Saipan Unity Lions Club.

Nagaratnam is the past district governor of the Orient and Southeast Asian Lions Club, while Lions Club International District 204 is comprised of Lions clubs in the CNMI, Guam, Palau, and Federated States Micronesia.

The meeting where Nagaratnam and Yang were special guests was held last March 9 at the Fiesta Resort & Spa. The purpose of the two officials’ visit is to touch base with the three Lions Clubs on the island: the Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club, Saipan Marianas Lions Club, and Saipan Unity Lions Club.

“They wanted to know how we are doing, our upcoming projects for the community, and how they can help us with all our future projects,” said Region 2 chair Ladyvir Canape.

She said Nagaratnam and Yang’s trip was a short one, leaving no time to visit the Tinian Marianas Lions Club and the newly chartered Rota Marianas Lions Club.

Despite the short visit, Canape said the local Lions clubs were glad to host the two officials.

“We are happy with their visit and was able to discuss some matters about the clubs and how we can do more when it comes to community service. As the saying goes, ‘Keep the fire burning’ to all the members.”

Canape added that as Lion members, they have a lot of things to learn about the club—it’s history and how they can apply to their own lives the club’s motto: “We Serve.”

“As the biggest organization worldwide, we should serve with pride and dignity,” said Region 2 PRO Annamae Adaza.

She added that Region 2 will be informing the public about their future projects and make sure that these will all be beneficial to the community.

Those who are interested to become Lion members may call Canape at 989-2545 or Zone chair Mario Mayuga at 285-1021. (PR)
