Lino Tenorio out as DOC acting commissioner
Acting governo Victor B. Hocog issued a memorandum on Friday, removing Lino Tenorio as acting commissioner of the Department of Corrections effective today, Monday.
In a memorandum addressed to all department and activity heads, Hocog designated Georgia Cabrera as acting DOC commissioner.
“Please extend your usual cooperation and understanding to Miss Cabrera as she assumes additional responsibilities,” said Hocog in a two-sentence memorandum obtained by Saipan Tribune.
Effective last Feb. 17, Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres replaced Cabrera as DOC commissioner and appointed Tenorio as acting DOC commissioner.
Cabrera was then assigned as acting director for civil detainees at DOC.
Tenorio has yet to be confirmed by the Senate as DOC commissioner.
In an interview last February, Tenorio said he would finish the things he left out in March 2009 when he was DOC commissioner. Tenorio said hearing it from the outside and seeing it himself first hand, he has noticed that there are a lot of things that his predecessors deviated from the actual DOC standing operating procedures.
He said he is going to fix the things that need fixing and run the department the way it supposed to be run.
Cabrera was then assigned as acting director for civil detainees at DOC.
Torres appointed Tenorio as new DOC commissioner effective last Feb. 17.
Tenorio used to serve as deputy commissioner for operations at the Department of Public Safety. Then-governor Benigno R. Fitial appointed Tenorio as DOC commissioner in November 2006.
Fitial, however, terminated Tenorio in March 2009 when the latter announced he was running for mayor of Saipan as an independent and not under the Covenant Party, among other reasons.
