Beginner ukulele class
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library registration for Beginner Ukulele Class is ongoing at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. The age range is children ages 8 years or older and adults. The total cost for 8 class sessions is $50. Ukulele classes are held at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in partnership with ukulele instructor Larry Lee and children. Session is set to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, from 4pm to 5pm.

The JKPL ukulele class is based on “first come; first paid.” Students must provide their own ukuleles and a folder to hold music sheets (plastic sheet protectors and a three-ring binder are recommended). Parents/guardians must sign a liability waiver form on behalf of their participating children and must adhere to public library policies and procedures.

For questions regarding ukulele class, call Celina Foreman or Victoria Cabrera at 235-7315 / 7322 during regular library hours.

Class dates are subject to change, unless otherwise specified. Students that have received a ukulele scholarship are able to take advantage of the ukulele class.

Secret science of ice cream
Last Jan. 26, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library hosted an exciting science activity in which participants were able to make ice cream—the secret science of ice cream!

The participants first learned about the ingredients that make up ice cream, and how each ingredient affects the whole recipe. Participants also learned the science behind ice cream making. Finally, each participant was able to make their own ice cream in a bag! After the ice cream was topped with chocolate sauce, the participants enjoyed eating their sweet treat!

A big thank you to all who participated, and everyone who helped make this program possible. We will be making ice cream again at our February KidzCamp! We look forward to sharing this program with the community again!
