The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library received new computers for an upcoming computer literacy class.

The library obtained the computers on Oct. 27, along with tables arriving within the same week.

The class, to be held within weeks under the supervision of Roy Rechebei, will cover basic computer navigation, computer terminologies, basic etiquette for browsing, and Microsoft Office applications. A minimum of six people is required and the session shall span a four-week period, each class being held on the Saturday of each week.

Erlinda Naputi, acting director for the library, said the 10 all-in-one computers were acquired with funding through an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant.

“We are also planning to have Photoshop lessons,” Naputi added.

Roy Rechebei said, “One of the purposes of having a computer upgrade, like what we have, is that everyone is using Windows 10 nowadays along with cell phones that work with computers. So we just want the public to get caught up with the rest of the world in terms of using electronic devices.”

Moreover, a policy is currently being created that allows students to rent out iPads in order to read electronic books that the library offers online. The iPads, however, will be lent out within the confines of the building.
