Two basketball competitions will unfurl next month with Basketball Association of Northern Mariana Islands and Emon Lodge No. 179 hosting tournaments for men’s open division.

BANMI will hold the 2015 Annual Liberation Day Tournament from July 2 to 5 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, while Emon Lodge No. 179 will kick off the IT&E-sponsored basketball league late next month with the venue yet to be determined.

Tournament director Elias Rangamar said the Liberation Day caging is open to the first six teams that will register and meet the competition requirements. The four-day contest will also feature a selection from Guam’s Andersen Bombers.

Registration fee is $200 and payment deadline is on June 30. A managers meeting is set for June 26 at 5pm at the conference room of the Ada gym.

For the Emon Lodge caging, league coordinator Bong Malasarte said four teams have already signified their intention to join the competition. Malasarte added they will accommodate a minimum of eight squads and maximum of 10.

The league coordinator along with other Emon Lodge No. 179 officials earlier received the $1,500 donation from sponsor IT&E.

Game schedules, ground rules, and other details of the league will be discussed in a series of meetings later this month.
