LibDay committee to accommodate Thursday Night Market vendors

The Liberation Day committee assured Thursday Night Market vendors that they would be provided space once the carnival opens on June 10. The Liberation Day committee has been regularly meeting to make sure the 71st anniversary of Saipan’s Liberation would go according to plan.

Logistics chair Mac Chargualaf explained to the committee the layout of the carnival grounds during their last meeting held at the conference room of the Saipan Mayor’s Office. Chargualaf, who is also the SMO safety officer, said there’s enough space at the Garapan Fishing Base.

A stage, 36 tents for the Liberation Day carnival vendors, tables and bleachers for the audience, and the area for the beer garden are some of the things on the layout presented by Chargulaf to the committee.

“Plus most of those vendors in the Thursday Night Market will also be selling at the Liberation Day carnival. We could put them near the games section of the parade grounds,” said Chargualaf.

They would also provide a route for the limousine that would be used by the Liberation Day Royal Court candidates since they are also part of the program.

He added that there’s also enough space for the emergency routes where EMT personnel could immediately respond to any emergency. The medical first aid tent and the ambulance will be near Beach Road.

“[Department of Public Safety] and [Emergency Management Services] personnel will be near Beach Road at the ground entrance. The power lines will be higher than last year for the ambulance to get in and out,” said Chargualaf.

Liberation Day non-profit group president Louis Rodgers asked about the power and other electricity connections. “We have to know the electrical requirements.”

“I will also have to secure a permit from [the Division of Environmental Quality] in order for us to put four additional power poles for electricity needs for the games tents,” said Chargualaf.

He added that he has also collected 200 wooden palettes from businesses and will continue asking companies once they are done unloading their goods and other items.
