One of the highlights of his military career was his promotion to the rank of colonel in August 1985. He retired after 30 years of “admirable service” from the Army in 1992.

House Resolution 19-10 was earlier passed to honor Tenorio.

In the official recognition, the Legislature cited Tenorio’s unique personal achievements.

“It is the sense of this Legislative body to recognize that the quality and character of life in the communities across the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of this unique individual who have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence,” the citation read.

Tenorio was commissioned as a second lieutenant, Corps of Engineers, through the Army ROTC program and proudly attained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from the College of Engineering, Marquette University in Milwaukee in 1962.

Tenorio’s loyal military service involved temporary duty assignments as platoon leader, 263rd Engineer Battalion to eventually become Commander, 302d Engineer Battalion in Guam (1981-1985) and State Military’s Support Office, Guam (1985-1988), and Officer in Charge, U.S. Reserve Western Pacific (1985-1989).

Tenorio’s extensive civilian professional experiences includes Junior Highway Engineer, Los Angeles County, CA, all the way to becoming director, (Department of Public Works, government of Guam, 1969-1971).

He also became president and CEO for the Guam and CNMI branches of his firms for 41 years (1971-2012), Juan C. Tenorio & Associates, Inc., Juan C. Tenorio, P.C. Consulting Engineers, and JC Tenono Engineers & Associates, Inc.

These were just a few of the long list of accomplishments Tenorio had during a long and distinguished career.
