Learning the hard way

When something is in need of repair, I do what I can to fix it. Some things just don’t come with a manual these days. If I give up too easily, then I fail myself without even trying. Determined to take on the challenge, I get to work. In most cases, when I put something together again, there is always that one screw left. Satisfied that I did my very best, I didn’t care much about that one screw. Of course, in due time it will meet its fate.

My father, Jesus Dela Cruz Cabrera, known to most as Jesus-Kangkang, Jesus Potu or Chumbai, taught me a lot. He does not like complaints nor likes it when people give up too easily. He expects a lot just like any father would. I guess that’s the way it is if the person knows hard work and is 74 years young! When he tasked me on a project and I screw up on purpose, he gives me this gesture as if he will hit me. I think it’s funny teasing but I learned that you can take any challenge if you put your mind to it. Thanks, pop, for having me learn the hard way. So, in these trying times, stay positive and don’t ever doubt yourself. Explore the possibilities.
