Law Revision Commission seeking original seal design

Share

The Commonwealth Law Revision Commission is seeking an original seal design that reflects its duties and functions to all three branches of the CNMI government and that is closely identified with important local events, activities, history, and symbols of the CNMI.

In line with this, the commission is inviting CNMI residents from age 10 to 18 to submit entries to its “Seal Design Contest.” The top winning entry will receive a cash prize of $300, sponsored by the Northern Judiciary Historical Society. LRC members’ and staff’s immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

Deadline to submit entries is 5pm (Standard Chamorro Time) of April 1, 2021, either physically or electronically.

You can submit the required documents by the deadline physically to the Commonwealth Law Revision Office, JCT Building II unit 6, between 8am and 12pm and 1pm and 5pm, Tuesday to Friday, except holidays; or electronically at CNMILAW@NMIJudiciary.com.

Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded in May 2021.

General rules and guidelines

Only one seal design entry is allowed per participant. Designs must be the participant’s original work. No third-party artwork or images, including clipart or copyrighted graphics, may be used. Participants shall warrant that their work does not infringe any copyright or other propriety rights, and that it does not contain material that is scandalous, obscene, libelous, otherwise contrary to the law.

Designs will be judged on the seal design’s aesthetics, creativity, and content in relation to the duties and functions of the LRC and the specifications listed above.

Seal designs must be original and incorporate the text “Commonwealth Law Revision Commission,” must include symbols and/or images of the latte stone, Carolinian mwaar, books(s), and designs must be hand-drawn or digitally created and should be submitted on letter-size (8.5 x 11 in.) paper of sufficient quality.

The LRC reserves the right to refuse the winner’s seal as an official seal of the LRC, if such refusal would serve the best interest of the LRC.

Providing false information, not adhering to the official rules and submission requirements, not meeting the submission deadline, or not providing a transfer and release form below may result in disqualification.

A large part of the seal design will be graded by content (50 points), which shows that the participant followed instructions by submitting their entry timely and by completing the work by using the required specifications.

The LRC plans to host a “Website Resources and Basics of Legal Research” presentation via Facebook Live from its Facebook page, Commonwealth Law Revision Commission. Participants who attend the presentation or watch the complete video on the Facebook page and correctly answers at least seven out of the 10 questions will receive a bonus of 10 points toward their entry.

Presentation date and time and questionnaire will be posted through our website www.cnmilaw.org and Facebook page.

LRC is an office within the judicial branch of the CNMI government with the principal duty of maintaining, updating, compiling, and publishing the primary law of each branch of government.
