The Seventh Day Adventist School’s MTB/Road bike fundraising race this Sunday will begin 30 minutes later than the original kickoff time.
Organizers said than instead of the 6:30am kick off, bikers will leave Paupau Beach at 7am. The change was made for the safety of the riders. Organizers added that they will also offer a race for kids and the course is around the Paupau parking area (two laps). Registration will begin as early as 5:30am and entrance fee is only $10.
Participants in the MTB bike race will pedal up to FEBC, Kimikaze and Autobahn trails, Santa Clause Lane, and Banzai before heading back to the starting/finish line. The MTB race is divided into three categories-open, beginners, and sport.
Bikers in the open MTB will negotiate the FEBC/Ayuyu Drive twice, while those entered in the sport course will go to FEBC, Kamikaze Trail, left to Grotto Road, left to Santa Claus Lane, Banzai Trail, and back to Paupau Beach. In the beginners course, participants will bike up to FEBC, turn left to Bird Island, make a U Turn to Grotto (Do not take Santa Clause Trail), Banzai Cliff, and back to the start/finish line.
Riders in the road bike category will cruise through the five corners-the Radar Tower, Suicide Cliff Lookout, Bird Island, Grotto, and Banzai-before returning to Paupau Beach.
After the race, organizers will award medals to the Top 5 finishers in each division. Two brand new mountain bikes will also be given away as raffle prizes. All proceeds from the weekend race will go to a group of SDA students (7th and 8th graders) for its educational trip this year.
