More than 200 runners joined the final Tom Picarro Memorial Fun Run held last Saturday with youth athletes Leowel Cristobal and Tania Tan leading the finishers of the seven-kilometer race.

Cristobal completed the event held for the last time in honor of the former DFS Saipan president in 28:04 to earn the overall first place award. Tan was the fourth overall finisher and first in the women’s division after checking in at 29:38. The two young runners received gift prizes presented by T Galleria Saipan general manager Milan Rabold and Picarro’s family members, who flew in from the mainland to witness the 25th and final staging of the “Silver Streak.” Former DFS Saipan official and now Hawaii-based Wolf Mojica, who helped organized the first race in 1994, was also present in last weekend’s event.

“It maybe the last time we will be holding the Silver Streak, but the memories of Mr. Picarro will remain in the hearts of his DFS Saipan family. He was a well-loved member of the community as shown in the number of runners and volunteers participating in the Silver Streak every year,” DFS Saipan president Marian Aldan-Pierce.

Meanwhile, other age group winners in the race that started and ended at T Galleria entrance fronting Beach Road with a turnaround point at the Quartermaster Road were Jim Takeru and Kaithlynn Chavez in the U12 age group and Stephen Bartolo and Therize Millare in the 13 to 19 division.

Rounding out the top finishers list were 20 to 29’s Josh Parker and Emily Northrop; 30 to 39’s Julius Mabutas and Heather Taylor; 40 to 49’s Raymund Tolentino and Noriko Jim; 50 to 59’s Ariel Lansangan and Sakiko Eda; and over 60’s Chang Wan Jang and Fely Garcia.
