Last of 3 men in rape case is released
The last of the three men who are accused of raping a woman was released to a third-party custodian and will await trial out of custody.
Richmond Ray Keybond, 19, has been released on a property bond to his grandmother and third-party custodian, Flaviana Saimon.
Keybond is one of three men who were allegedly involved in the same rape case. He is the last to be placed on house arrest.
The two other co-defendants are Keybond’s father, Romeo Aquino Saimon, and his uncle, Joseph Aquino Saimon. Both were released months prior to Keybond on property bonds.
Flaviana Saimon previously served as a third-party custodian to a former defendant, Christopher Aquino Saimon, whose case has since been dismissed due to an untreatable mental disorder.
Keybond’s request to be released to a third-party custodian was unopposed by the prosecution.
Because there was no opposition and his third-party custodian had also been approved for the same role before the dismissal of the case against Christopher Saimon, no hearing was needed.
Last month, Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio absolved Christopher Saimon of two counts of sexual assault in the second-degree because reports of various experts deemed him incompetent to stand trial.
Kim-Tenorio set the jury trial for the three remaining defendants for Jan. 13, 2020. Pre-trial conference is on Dec. 3, 2019, at 1:30pm.
Keybond, Romeo Saimon, and Joseph Saimon were all arrested back in 2018 for allegedly raping the same women multiple times.
