Las Vegas Night moved to January

The Rotary Club of Saipan’s signature event, Las Vegas Night, will not happen on Halloween night this year.

According to Rotary Club president Curtis Dancoe, they pushed back the date for their fundraising event from Oct. 31 to Jan. 9 next year in order to be able to sell more tickets.

“We would’ve been fine but 30 days is just not enough,” Dancoe said. “I’ve done promotions, it’s at least 90 days to do promotions successfully.”

The event will still be held at the Saipan World Resort.

Initially, the Rotary intended to use the proceeds to buy school supplies for students as part of Typhoon Soudelor recovery but Dancoe said they now have other resources to do that. Dancoe said they received $5,000 from various donors as well as $25,000 from the Rotary Club District 2750.

“We can use that for the school supplies and we have some stuff coming in from Guam,” he said.

The Rotary Club is expecting a 20-foot container from Guam filled with school supplies.

Dancoe said they will be giving school supplies to public middle schools. They are targeting the second half of the school year after the holidays for the distribution.
