The Saipan Rotary Club posted about $44,000 in gross proceeds from Saturday’s Las Vegas Night, an amount that vice president Laila Boyer described as record-breaking in the history of the fundraiser.

The amount, which was from the sales of tickets they produced, surpassed last year’s $30,000 gross proceeds.

Dave Sablan also said that Saturday night’s turnout was the biggest he has ever seen in the 27 years of the club’s history.

This year’s Las Vegas Night was attended by about a thousand-plus players and guests.

During the club’s weekly meeting at Hyatt Regency Saipan yesterday, club president Pete Shilling acknowledged each and every member and volunteers who “all did a perfect job” despite the overwhelming crowd throughout the night. Special thanks were also conveyed to each member of the community who supported the Las Vegas Night fundraiser despite the economic challenges and to the Saipan World Resort for hosting the event.

Glen Perez reported that of the club’s 39 members, majority or 32 were present last Saturday.

This year’s proceeds will be used to build a children’s park in Kagman village, which is expected to begin work this year.

Las Vegas Night winners will be presented their prizes next week.

Ariel Capati, this year’s grand prize winner, will be made to choose between $10,000 cash prize and a brand new 2012 Hyundai Accent GLS.

Other winners are Romana Emmeti, who won the $3,000 cash prize; Reynaldo Pulido, $2,000 cash prize; Mike Cruz, $1,000 cash prize; and Leonora Bengco, $500 cash prize.

Las Vegas Night, the club’s major fundraiser every year, aims to raise funds for the organization’s various community projects. This year’s edition featured tables crammed with players eager to lay bets on Texas Hold’em, Black Jack, Roulette, Bingo, and Craps.
