Laolao Bay officials invited 11 representatives of various golf associations on Saipan to a recent meeting where they presented their plan.
The Saipan Golf Association, Fil-Taga Golfers Association, Commonwealth Women’s Golf Association, Korean Golf Association, and other groups are some of those that they invited in the said meeting held at Laolao Bay.
Laolao Bay management, however, clarified that they are not trying to unite all golf associations under one club, but rather is forming a new group where everyone is free to join and can further hone their respective games.
Laolao Bay Sales and Marketing manager for Korean market, Paul Park, said that Club Lao is the tentative name given by management where they are hoping to attract a minimum membership of 100. They will set an election of officers once everything is finalized.
“We won’t be strict with the selection of membership and we’re still haven’t decided yet if we’re going to allow the junior golfer to join the club,” said Park.
Park added that they are opening the two 18-hole Greg Norman-designed golf courses to those who are interested to join for a free trial period from Sept. 22 to Oct. 31 with no registration fee required.
Registered members will only pay a $25 fee to play and $5 for use of the locker.
Laolao Bay is also organizing a club tournament for its members on Oct. 26 starting at 1pm at the west course with a $50 entry fee, including play fee and banquet.
Park said that the club’s official name, application process, benefits, and regulations will be announced before end of October.
Park added that Laolao Bay management will also be introducing new CNMI resident regular play fee with a flat rate of $40 at both courses (east and west) to all CNMI residents effective Oct. 1 until further notice. (Jon Perez)
