The Lady Ol’Aces and CTSI recorded contrasting victories against their respective opponent during the opening of the 2019 TanHoldings Christmas Basketball Tournament last Saturday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

The Lady Ol’Aces played in the curtain-raiser in the women’s division and walloped the Rollers, 64-15, while CTSI eked out a 46-44 win over the Baby Ol’Aces in the second match.

Eleina Santos powered the Lady Ol’Aces to the easy victory after firing 22 points. Cassandra Camacho also finished in twin digits in their debut in the four-team competition, adding 10 markers.

With Santos leading the Lady Ol’Aces’ offense, the early favorites built a commanding 36-2 lead at halftime. Marlene Lumabi scored the only field goal for the hapless Rollers in the first half, while Santos delivered 10 straight points for the Ol’Aces to anchor the breakaway. The former CNMI National Team member wrapped up the first half with 18 points and with the win already secured for the Lady Ol’Aces, Santos let her teammates finished off the Rollers in the last 20 minutes of play.

Desrei Camacho and Jaime Pangelinan were the other Lady Ol’Aces who contributed to the team’s lopsided win with the former chipping in 9 points and the latter logging 8. Lumabi paced the Rollers with her 13 points, while Marla Buenabajo was only the second player on the team to score (2 points) in their first game in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Aliyah Fernandez sizzled for 24 points for CTSI, making 11 of the squad’s last 16 points to foil the Baby Ol’Aces’ comeback bid in the second half. Fernandez knocked in three straight triples at one point midway through the second half and also nailed CTSI’s last basket in the game.
