The Lady Legals and Hotshots outpaced their respective opponents in the women’s division of the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League last Sunday at the DanDan Softball Field.
The Lady Legals doubled their runs against the Lady Sufa, 12-6, while Janice Celis of the Hotshots shutout Team BDE, 11-1.
The first inning was quiet for both teams, but in the second inning, the Lady Legals’ bats came alive and brought in six runs.
While the Lady Legals kept the scorekeeper busy, Lady Sufa still laid goose eggs until the fourth inning when Annalyn Olupumar hit a double, followed with a two-run single by Brinae Cruz.
The Lady Legals then added three more runs for an 11-3 game, and only three more runs were made by the Lady Sufa in the last inning for a final of 12-6.
Throughout the game, the Lady Legals’ Edilyn Benjamin hit a solo homer, Pauline Camacho went 4-for-4 at bat, while teammate Almina Guerrero had two RBIs.
In the Hotshots-BDE game, the only run scored against Celis was a homerun made in the fifth inning, but other than that, BDE had a limited number of hits against the Hotshots.
Meanwhile, the Hotshots were flaming up the field once they found their groove in the third inning, bringing in three runs led off by Erica Tenorio.
Celis also helped her offense as a base hit off a BDE error allowed Mardina Kaipat to run home after her double. Tenorio went 3-for-4 at bats, while Rosie Saralu earned two RBIs, and Janica Lizama had three RBIs off a triple.
Three more runs each in the fifth and sixth inning made for a 11-1 game as BDE couldn’t conjure up more.
Results of the men’s games will be posted in the next issues of Saipan Tribune.
