Lady Geckos dominate 9U qualifiers

The Saipan International School Lady Geckos conquered the elementary qualifiers of the 2021 Public School System All Schools Track and Field Championship that concluded last week.
All the top qualifiers of the 9U girls division were from SIS with Neveah Arriola, Beatrice Gross, and Windsor Gross landing No. 1 in their respective qualifying events.
In the 60m championship qualifiers, Arriola gained the first championship seat with a time of 10:48. The other qualifiers include SIS’ Lucy Woo, Beatrice Gross, Yummy Peng, Saipan Community School’s Maria Haberman, and Brilliant Star School’s Selina Santiago.
For the 9U 100m championship qualifier, Beatrice Gross came out on top with a time of 17:22. Joining her in the championships will be Oleai Elementary School’s Alina Esakova, Arriola, Koblerville Elementary School’s Jemelyn Jones, Woo, and Elena Teigita of OES.
Beatrice Gross also landed the No. 1 spot in the 200m, 400m, long jump, and softball throw championship qualifiers. Joining her for the 200m is Windsor Gross, BSS’ Scarlet Burrell and LoVel Spaeth, and fellow Lady Geckos Woo and Arriola.
Meanwhile in the 400m, Beatrice Gross will face off with sister Windsor Gross, Esakova of OES, Allie Brasuell of SCS, Woo, and Jemelyn Jones.
In the long jump, Beatrice Gross will come head-to-head with Haberman, Windsor Gross, Esakova, fellow Lady Gecko Leilani Ruszala, Woo, Santiago, Teigita, Peng, Lily Lim of SCS, and Carlina Maras.
For the softball throw, Beatrice Gross will vie for the title against Teigita, Esakova, OES’ Jayla Ayuyu, Leilani Ruszala, Peng, Windsor Gross, Santiago, and Floreigh Lanoy of OES.
Also topping multiple categories was Windsor Gross who prevailed in the 800m and 1,500m championship qualifier.
Windsor Gross will face Beatrice Gross, Ruszala, Woo, Spaeth, Haberman, Arriola, and Maras for the chance to become the school year’s champion in the 9U girls 800m event.
Then in the 1,500m championship, Windsor Gross will battle Brausuell, Ruszala, Arriola, Beatrice ross, Peng, Michelle Im of SIS, and Maras.
The two-day championship event will take place on May 7 and May 8 at the Oleai Track and Field.
The May 7 championships will start at 3pm and is expected to conclude at around 6pm and will continue on to the next day, May 8, from 8am to around 11am.
The Public School System All Schools Track and Field Championship is being held in coordination with Northern Marianas Athletics.
