Lady Dolphins, Lady Rays keep streak

Marianas High School Varsity and Saipan Southern High School are still unbeaten in the 2019-2020 Public School System Interscholastic Girls High School Basketball League to share the lead in the competition after last Thursday games at the MHS Gymnasium.
MHS Varsity cruised to victory against Agape Christian School, while Saipan Southern outlasted Grace Christian, giving the Lady Dolphins and Lady Manta Rays similar 5-0 records and the top spot in the seven-team field. Mt. Carmel School is at second place with its 3-3 mark, followed by MHS Junior Varsity and Agape, which hold identical 2-3 slates, GCA (1-5) and Kagman High School (0-5).
The Lady Dolphins faced Agape in the second game on the north court and clobbered the Torchbearers, 31-7. Over on the southern court, GCA proved to be a challenging opponent for Saipan Southern, as the Lady Manta Rays labored through a 23-14 victory.
In other results, MHS JV swept its pair of matches last week, nipping GCA first, 14-13 before pulling off another close win over Mt. Carmel, 20-17.
The Lady Knights had a split last Thursday after downing Kagman, 16-7, while Agape also prevailed over the Lady Ayuyus, 19-6.
Meanwhile, last Tuesday’s matches in the league were rescheduled due to tropical storm Kammuri and will be played on Jan. 7, 2020.
Regular games will resume on Dec. 3 with MHS Varsity battling GCA and MHS JV, and Mt. Carmel facing Kagman on the north court. On the south side, Agape squares off against GCA and Saipan Southern, while GCA will have its first game next week against Kagman.
