Thirty-five students and two teachers from a middle school in South Korea are on Saipan and are interacting with students at Chacha Oceanview Junior High School.

In an interview at the Saipan Mayor’s Office, student exchange program coordinator Gang Nung Lee said the students are currently studying English at Chacha Oceanview.

“They are taking English classes. They came here to Saipan on Dec. 8 and will be leaving on Dec. 13,” Lee said.

Lee noted that their school’s students also visited last year under the same program.

“They have developed a sisterhood relationship with COJHS and the reason they’re here is that it will help encourage English, because English now in Korea is a very important language to learn,” Lee said.

The students’ ages range from 14 to 16 years old.

The group will be heading to the Thursday Street Market tonight and will visit the Saipan Mayor’s Office and the Man’amko Center tomorrow, Friday.
