Qualifying events rules
This year’s qualifying tournaments will implement a new set of rules.
Participating schools will compete per each zone in the different sprints, middle distance, throw, and jump events.
For the sprints (60m, 100m, 200m), the Top 2 finishers in each zone will automatically qualify for the All Schools Championship next month. Then the rest of the times from all zones will be compiled with the Top 2 getting the last two tickets.
For the middle distance (400m, 800m, and 1,500m), throw (javelin, softball and shotput), and jump events (long and high jump), the Top 3 from each zone will make it straight to the championship, while the Top 3 from all zones combined will win the remaining slots.
Zone A is composed of Saipan Community School, Dandan Elementary School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, and William S. Reyes Elementary School. Whispering Palms is in Zone B along with Oleai, Kagman, San Antonio, and Brilliant Start, while Zone C has Koblerville, SIS, San Vicente, Tanapag, and Garapan.
The zone system is implemented only in the elementary division.
Results of Week 1 of the qualifiers in the high school and junior high will be published in Saipan Tribune’s Friday edition.
