KKMP helping LibDay committee to raise funds

Radio station KKMP is assisting the 2012 Liberation Day committee to raise funds for the weeklong festivities by offering promotional packages to various government agencies that have federally funded programs.
KKMP’s Gary Sword informed the committee members during yesterday’s meeting that he already distributed the promotional package kits to these agencies which include the Division of Public Health and the Division of Fish & Wildlife.
Some 20 committee members and volunteers attended the meeting held at the Mayor’s Office conference room. The meeting was still ongoing when Saipan Tribune left at about 3pm.
Sword said the promotional package involves promoting the respective agencies and their programs by having their names in the Liberation banner to be posted in conspicuous places, a full-page advertisement in the 50-page commemorative booklet, radio announcements, and recognition during the actual Liberation Day program.
He said the promotional package was created to entice these agencies to promote their products and raise public awareness while supporting the biggest community event in the CNMI.
“We went from cancellation to celebration,” said Sword, referring to the positive feedbacks he received from the various agencies.
But Sword noted that the agencies, particularly those with programs dealing with health issues, agreed to avail of the promotional packages only if the festivities remain alcohol and smoke-free.
The committee agreed to accommodate the request and will just designate a smoking area within the festival grounds.
This year’s Liberation Day celebration will be held from June 28 to July 4 at the Garapan Fishing Base. Sword said the culmination of the event, which is the Fourth of July program, will be broadcast live via KKMP.
According to Sword, they are also working on getting funding for the wooden stage big enough to accommodate dignitaries and performers during the Liberation Day Parade.
Sword added that he expects to finalize which agencies and companies will avail of the promotional package within the week.
