Tents were put up at the PIC tennis hard courts as Tropical Storm In-Fa threatened to dampen the matches.
WSR, which came from the loser’s bracket of the double- elimination round tourney, needed a few strategic catches in the finals opener to hold of KagES’ repeated comeback tries to force a deciding match against their first round tormentors.
The Kingfishers, smelling blood, showed no mercy in the finals decider and took down the 2013 titlists in a lopsided match.
WSR, which entered the bracket stage as the sixth seed after pool play in the morning, seemed headed for an early exit after dropping to the loser’s bracket after a crushing defeat against the fifth-ranked Marlins.
They fought all the way back and took down Grace Christian Academy, Oleai Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, and Whispering Palms to arrange a rematch against Kagman in the finals.
Koblerville Elementary School finished on top of Pool B and in the process was the No. 1 ranked team heading into the bracket stage.
Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, Oleai Elementary School, Kagman, WSR, defending champion San Vicente Elementary School, Whispering Palms School, GCA, and Brilliant Star complete the standings after pool play.
Each team played four games in their respective pools to earn a seed into the double elimination bracket.
The Blue Marlins, in the bracket stage, earned the first championship berth by breezing past their opponents. They sent the Kingfishers, Canaries and the WPS Donuts to the bottom bracket to wait which team will be their finals foe.
WSR worked their way up back to the title match after dispatching the other teams in the loser’s bracket and even ended WPS’ Cinderealla run.
