King-Hinds is new CPA board chair
The Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors elected Kimberlyn King-Hinds yesterday as its new board chairperson, replacing longtime chair Jose R. Lifoifoi.
This puts two board chairmanship under King-Hinds’ belt. She used to chair the Board of Regents of the Northern Marianas College.
At yesterday’s CPA board meeting, Thomas P. Villagomez, who has been serving as acting chair for several months already in the absence of Lifoifoi, moved to elect King-Hinds as the new chairwoman.
The board unanimously approved her election. She is the first woman to chair the CPA board.
Roman T. Tudela Sr. was elected vice chairman and Pete Reyes as the secretary.
Reyes and Barrie C. Toves retained their chairmanship of the seaport facilities committee and airport facilities committee, respectively.
Joseph Diaz is taking over the personnel affairs committee that Roman Tudela Sr. previously chaired. Villagomez is the new chairman of the financial affairs committee that King-Hinds previously handled.
In an interview, King-Hinds said it’s an honor and privilege to have the support of the board and the confidence of both the board and Gov. Ralph DLG Torres to serve in this capacity as chair.
“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done, especially in light of the devastation of Super Typhoon Yutu. So I’m just looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and helping move this ship forward,” King-Hinds said.
She said Lifoifoi, who has some health issues, is taking time off, is focused on being healthy and making sure his wife is healthy.
She clarified that Lifoifoi is still a board member and is aware of the election of officers.
