Leina Kim continues to flash the same old form that earned her numerous titles on Saipan as she set a new tournament record in the second week of the 2014 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season.

Kim finished with a 4-under par 140 to break her own 142 record to rule the Colorado Christian Invitational on Tuesday at the Raccoon Creek Golf Course in Littleton, Colo. She posted that 142 in last year’s season-opening RMAC #1 Tournament at the Desert Hawk Golf Course in Pueblo West, Colo.

The 22-year-old Kim opened with a 5-under 67 to match her own single-round course record.

And despite shooting 1-over 73 on the final day for that 140, the 22-year-old was still the best golfer to win her second consecutive title and in the process helped the Lady ThunderWolves to a third place finish behind champion Metropolitan State University (MSU) of Denver and Regis University, respectively.

The two-time RMAC Preseason Golfer of the Year is coming off a victory in last week’s Samuel Proal Insurance Lady Wolf Pack Invitational after firing a 2-over-par 144 for a 9-stroke win over Regis University’s Nicole Hulbert (153, 78-75).

MSU Denver topped the team event with a 39-over 615 (311, 204) for a 13-shot win over runner-up Regis (+52, 628). CSU-Pueblo was five shots back to finish third with a 633 (317, 316).

CSU-Pueblo senior Julie Sanchez, Kim’s teammate, bounced back from a 10-over 82 with an even-par 72 to end up tied for fifth at 154 with MSU Denver’s Valerie Cruz.

ThunderWolf rookie Samantha Geisick joined three others—Rachel Rodriguez (Regis), Cassidy Volmer (South Dakota School of Mines and Technology), and Jamie Zook (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs) with a 23-over-par 167.

Megan McCutcheon, tied for 45th with two others at 28-over 172, and Natasha Navarro is at 51st with a two-day total of 178 to round up CSU-Pueblo’s scoring.

The RMAC golf season continues next week at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate tournament at Estrella Mountain Ranch in Goodyear, Ariz. (Jon Perez)
