Kilili: FEMA provides Marianas $10,894 in funeral cost aid so far
As of Dec. 6, 2021, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program has provided a total of $10,894 in aid to the Marianas with, according to Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (MP-Ind) over the weekend.
The FEMA funeral cost assistance aid is available for Marianas families who lose a loved one to COVID-19.
Sablan said in his e-kilili newsletter that applicants for assistance must be U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, or qualified aliens. The delegate said the death must have occurred in the United States and been caused by the coronavirus. He said assistance is limited to a maximum of $9,000 per funeral.
“To apply for the aid, call toll-free to (844) 684-6333 from 9am to 9pm ET, Monday through Friday,” Sablan said.
The Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. confirmed Saturday the CNMI’s 14th pandemic-related death.
Last week, Patrick C. Guerrero, who is the governor’s authorized representative, said the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program is a direct assistance, which means that the individual will have to apply on their own by calling 1-844-684-6333,
Guerrero said there is no option to apply online for such funeral assistance at this time.
He said the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program is available to applicants of the CNMI who have incurred funeral expenses due to the virus on or after Jan. 20, 2020.
