Kilili back to work this week
Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) is expected to report to work this week, more than two months after he underwent a delicate spine surgery.
Bob Schwalbach, the lawmaker’s chief of staff, said Sablan “is back at work as of this week.”
“Recovery from this type of back surgery requires a program of physical therapy to regain full function. Mr. Sablan will be beginning the physical therapy this month and that may continue for some time,” he added.
On March 4, Sablan underwent successful surgery at the George Washington University Hospital to alleviate pressure on his spine.
Dr. Anthony Caputy, who led the surgical team, described the three-hour operation as “completely normal and according to expectation.”
An extended period of home recovery with limited activity followed before he began physical therapy to restore a full range of mobility.
Sablan filed for a leave of absence on Feb. 20, citing the need for the surgery on his back.
Sablan earlier said that shuttling back and forth between the Commonwealth and Washington, D.C., in the last six years took a heavy toll on his back.
Sablan just recently began his fourth term as the CNMI nonvoting representative to the 114th House of Representatives.
