KHS to host this year’s AP Summer Institute
This summer Kagman High School will be hosting the 11th Annual College Board endorsed Advanced Placement Summer Institute.
Each of the courses offered in this year’s Advanced Placement Summer Institute will meet the training needs for both the Pre-AP and AP teacher. It is encouraged that junior high teachers sign up for this professional development opportunity in order to expand the AP Programs across all of the CNMI.
Pre-AP professional development workshops are designed to help any teacher instill more rigor in the courses they are teaching students in the years prior to AP. Courses using Pre-AP strategies are academically advanced courses designed to challenge motivated students to learn rigorous content. The course requires students to participate in independent and group assignments that are analytical and complete a substantial amount of coursework outside of class. Courses using Pre-AP Strategies are designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Thus, if more teachers are trained to have a Pre-AP focus, more students will be prepared to take AP courses.
Courses available are:
* AP Studo Art
* Pre-AP Strategies: Topics for AP Vertical Teams in English
* Pre-AP Strategies: AP Vertical teams for Mathematics
* Pre-AP and AP U.S. History
The event will take place from June 26 to 2012 at the Kagman High School campus from 8am to 3pm. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Register by emailing Leila.staffler@cnmipss.org ASAP. Spaces are limited so email today! Registration fee for non-PSS employees is $100. Payment is due on the first day of the institute. PSS employees’ registration fees are waived. (PR)
