KHS Interact strives for positive impact
As they close school year 2022-23, members of the Kagman High School’s Interact Club remembers some of their community efforts in the past months, listing some of their notable accomplishments in a news release last week.
Despite being a smaller Interact club composed of just 25 active members, the KHS Interact Club has been making a significant impact on their community, donating nearly $2,000 to different organizations, three of which include the Commonwealth Cancer Association, Boonie Babies, and PolioPlus.
Since October 2022, the club has organized and participated in 11 events throughout the year to raise funds for various organizations. The club was able to raise $800 for animal advocate Boonie Babies, $500 for PolioPlus, and $100 for CCA.
Grace Keilbach who is a co-founder of Boonie Babies, is grateful to the club. “Part of Boonie Babies’ mission is to share our passion for animals with others and inspire them to get involved. We believe that the way we are going to change animal welfare on Saipan starts with the younger generation. Having the KHS Interact Club and other youth on island working hard to support our mission reminds us that change is happening and will continue to happen. We couldn’t be more impressed, proud, and excited to be working with more amazing, young, great minds and we look forward to continue making the island a better place for all that call it home,” she said.
The club attributes their successes to the hard work and dedication of not only the members and officers, but also their advisers, Maria Ornes, Celina Biado, Jolene Aguon, and David Bucher.
The club’s officer—president Lee Camacho, vice president Richard Lacson, secretary Akiya Baetiong, treasurer Camille Quitugua, historian Guinaiya Ogumoro, parliamentarian Iyana San Nicolas, and community Service director Lisa Lin—are also credited with the club’s success, with their commitment and leadership being a driving force behind the club’s achievements.
“I am extremely proud of how much the club has grown. We’ve had many new members join and it’s been a fun time. The accomplishments that we strived for and created, couldn’t have been done without the help of everyone,” said Camacho.
The club looks forward to welcoming new officers this incoming school year and continuing their work to make a positive impact on the community. Through their efforts, the Kagman High School Interact Club hopes to be a shining example of the power of young people, no matter how small, to make a difference in the world.
