The Kagman High School Class of 2006 held a bake sale and garage sale at the Garapan Fishing Base last Saturday, raising over $600 for their five-year class reunion that is scheduled for Oct. 9.
The group sold chocolate chip cookies, brownies, clothes, and other goodies and pre-loved items. All baked goods were sold and leftover clothing was donated to the Ohala Foundation.
“We want everyone in our class to come and enjoy for free; the main thing is to get together,” said Ashley Reiko Pangelinan, owner of Pualani Crown and Free in Saipan and lead organizer for her class reunion party. Food, drinks, game prizes, and decorations are part of what the class is raising money for.
When asked why the class chose to make a donation to the Ohala Foundation in particular, Pangelinan said a good friend mentioned the organization to her. The Ohala Foundation is a Tinian-based nonprofit organization that provides food and clothing to those in need with plans to expand into Rota, Saipan, Guam, and the rest of Micronesia. The class mostly donated children’s clothing.
The KHS Class of 2006’s future plans include helping out in painting and cleaning KHS before the start of the next school year, doing more beach cleanups, and holding more fundraisers for future gatherings.
