KES reigns supreme in softball throw

A Top 3 finish in the boys U7 division set Koblerville Elementary School’s domination in the softball throw event in the 2018 Public School System/McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships last Wednesday at the Oleai Sports Complex oval.

The Umangs’ Javen Ewar, Mark Haven, and Vince Eusebio all made it to the podium of the boys U7 age group with the former having the best heave after recording 19.23m in his second and final throw. Haven and Eusebio registered 17.36m and 11.81m, respectively, to win the silver and bronze medals for KES. All results in Day 1 of the four-day competition were unofficial.

After the sweep in the boys U7 division, the Umangs went on to bag five more medals in the softball throw event, which was only for elementary school students.

In the girls U7 age group, the gold went to Tinian Elementary School’s Kaisa San Nicolas (16.84m), while KES’ Jackielyn Calagie (14.67) and Oleai Elementary School’s Andresina Santos (13.72m) took the silver and bronze.

In the U9 division, William S. Reyes’ Cayden Lizama (33.42m) prevailed in the boys contest, while Kagman Elementary School’s Shamae Kileleman (22.41m) topped the girls field. Kileleman was joined in the podium by KES’ Ashley Rasiang (18.73m) and Marcela Leaben (16.45m), while Tinian’s Travis Borja (25.31m) and WSR’s Luis Reyes (22.86m) rounded out the Top 3 in the boys division.

In the boys U11, Brilliant Star School had a 1-2 finish with Casey Chambers (38.60m) winning the gold and Tristan Raho (29.96m) getting the silver. KES’ Skymark Defang earned the bronze after posting 29.94m. San Vicente duplicated Brilliant Star’s feat in the girls competition, as Patty Mendiola (39.94m) and Ha’ani Passi (23.40m) snatched the gold and silver medals, while Koblerville had another third place finish, courtesy of Brinel Quitugua (21.01).

Meanwhile, the All Schools meet scheduled four events in yesterday’s competition. First up was the 800m run for all age groups, followed by shot put (for middle and high school), 200m run, and discus throw.

Today, the organizing Northern Marianas Athletics will have the 400m run, long jump, 100m run, and 4x100m relay. Then for the last day of the annual tournament, students will compete in the 3,000m run, 4x400m relay, and mixed medley relay.
