Kautz captures April ace

Rick Kauz won the Saipan Golfers Association April Ace of the Month Tournament last April 16 at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s east course.
The longtime businessman carded a net score of 64 to win the monthly championship. The 12-handicapper fired the score to beat after swinging for a 37 in the first nine holes before returning to the clubhouse with a 39 for a gross of 76.
Alex Tudela finished second with his net 71 built around a 40 in the front nine and a 42 in the back nine—good for a gross of 82—for the 11-handicapper.
Attorney General Edward Manibusan actually finished tied with Tudela for second but lost via scorecard tiebreaker. The 9-handicapper shot a 40 in the first go-around before improving by a stroke for a 39 in the last nine holes for a gross of 79.
With the win in April, Kautz now joins SGA 2023 Ace of Aces Tournament early qualifiers Ray Salas (January), Das Krishnan (February), and Joe Sablan (
March).
In the closest to the pin competition, Kautz was two times a winner by winning hole No. 4, while his best friend Nick Sablan ruled the roost in hole No. 6. Larry Deleon Guerrero was without peer in hole No. 11 with Joe Sablan taking a victory lap in hole No. 15.
Das Krishnan brought the lumber in hole No. 5 to win the longest drive in that hole, while Mariano Fajardo did the same in hole No. 10.
The SGA 2023 May Ace of the Month Tournament is scheduled this Sunday, May 21, at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course. Tee time is 9:30am with a show time an hour earlier at 9am.
