Karidat Social Services is calling on the community for support and help in restocking its food pantry, especially this holiday season, through the Karidat Christmas Giving Tree.
“The community and the parishes can donate food or money, and all of that money and the proceeds will go to the Karidat food pantry to help restock it throughout the year,” said Karidat executive director Lauri Ogumoro.
For every cash or canned food donation, the donor would get an ornament in his/her name added as decoration to Karidat’s Christmas Giving Tree.
Karidat’s goal is to sustain the food pantry year-round.
“There are times in the year when our food pantry is pretty fair, so we are trying to figure out how we can keep it going and sustain it year-round. The board of directors really thought of what we could do that will really last throughout the year. We wanted to start off with the Giving Tree,” Ogumoro said.
Ogumoro also revealed that 2019 Miss Marianas Shannon Sasamoto was the first one to put an ornament on Karidat’s Christmas Giving Tree. Sasamoto earlier held a birthday and Thanksgiving food drive, the donations of which she donated to Karidat.
Aside from Sasamoto, several churches and schools have also already donated.
The Karidat Christmas Giving Tree will be up until end of the Christmas season in January.
To make a cash or food donation to the Karidat Food Pantry, stop by the Karidat main office at the Sister Remedios Community Center in Chalan Kanoa.
