Kanoa Football Club and TanHoldings Football Club notched contrasting wins in the 2019 Dove Spring Women’s Futsal League last Sunday at the TSL Sports Complex.

TanHoldings played in the curtain-raiser and cruised past Matansa Football Club-1 in their penultimate game, 5-1. In the last match of the triple-header, Kanoa edged MP United, 4-3, while Matansa-2 got a free win after a no-show from Topnotch in the second game.

Merlie Tolentino scored two goals for Kanoa, including the insurance two minutes before the close match wrapped up. Her first goal came in the 29th minute, handing Kanoa a 3-1 lead. Kanoa’s earlier two goals were courtesy of Elsa Zapanta and Melanie Santos, who found the back of the net in the fifth and 34th minute.

Laarni Zapanta also scored in the 34th to end MP United’s long silence, while her goal in the 46th threatened Kanoa before Tolentino’s conversion two minutes later gave their team more breathing room. Laarni made it three in a row when she hit her target anew in the 49th minute, cutting Kanoa’s lead again to one. But that was it for MP United, as Kanoa hung on in the last minute to preserve the win.

In the other game last weekend, TanHoldings pulled away in the second half for the easy win.

TanHoldings tallied three goals in the final 25 minutes of play with Jessica Ortizo, Maggie Chavez, and Eun Benavente contributing one each. Ortizo and Chavez also hit the board in the first half, while Matansa-1’s lone goal was courtesy of Nang Aldrich.

Meanwhile, the last set of games in the masters division for the spring season will be played this Sunday. In the first game at 4pm, Matansa-2 will take on MP United, while in the second tiff at 5:15pm, Topnotch will challenge TanHoldings. Kanoa and Matansa-1 will close out the season, as they collide in the third match at 6:30pm.
