Kanoa Football Club and TanHoldings Football Club extended their streak in the 2020 NMIFA Spring Youth League after prevailing in last Saturday’s matches at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
In the first boys U16 game, Kanoa stretched its winning run to five after nosing out MP United, 2-1.
Sean Gil and Markus Toves scored the two goals for Kanoa with the latter delivering the insurance in the 52nd minute. Earlier in the 16th minute, Gil put Kanoa on the board and they made it a 2-0 advantage after Toves’ shot in the second half.
MP United then threatened to launch a late rally when Andrew Chung’s goal in the 60th minute moved the team within one. However, Kanoa held on to remain undefeated in five games.
MP United, with the loss, still has only one win to show this season.
In the other boys U16 division match, TanHoldings got win No. 3 after downing Matansa, 4-1.
Kohtaro Goto led the victory after recording a hat trick. His goals came in succession late in the second half, as he scored in the 50th, 58th, and 60th minute. TanHoldings’ other goal came from Mark Joseph Roque, who found the back of the net in the 34th minute.
Matansa’s lone goal was courtesy of Carl Salas in the 27th minute and the team kept the upper hand in the first half before TanHoldings found its rhythm in the second to foil its foe’s bid for an upset.
