Sharmaine Francisco knocked in a pair of goals to help Kanoa Football Club maintain its undefeated record following a 2-1 triumph over MP United Football Club in the girls U16 division of the 2019 NMIFA Spring Youth League last Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.

Francisco scored her first goal in the fourth minute, while Stellalou McCallion knotted up the count in the eighth before the former drilled the go-ahead in the 32nd for Kanoa’s third victory out of four games. Kanoa, with its 3-1-0 win-draw-loss mark shares the top spot in the six-team field with Southern United FC, while MP United absorbed its second loss to remain at the bottom half of the standings.

Southern United FC missed getting the solo lead after settling for a draw against TanHoldings FC, 1-1.

Rizza Relucio drew first blood for TanHoldings, but their team could not keep the shaky lead, as Nathanette Blas converted the equalizer for Southern United in the 60th minute.

Meanwhile, Matansa barged into the win column after edging out Paire, 3-2.

Pia Ngewakl made the go-ahead goal for Matansa in the 56th minute to complete their come-from-behind win.

Paire led at the break, 2-1, behind the brace of Erin Frink, who scored in the sixth and 10th minute. Matansa then cut the deficit to one at halftime, thanks to Barbara Peteru’s shot in the 13th minute. Peteru went on to tie the game with her goal in the 37th minute before Ngewakl hit the dagger later.

GIRLS U19 DIVISION
Kanoa 12, Matansa 0

Kanoa also holds an unbeaten record in the girls U19 division (futsal) after clobbering Matansa last Friday at the TSL Sports Complex.

Shairmaine Francisco and Paulynn Joyce showed no mercy against the hapless Matansa after firing five goals apiece, as they alternately found the back of the net for the streaking Kanoa.

With Matansa failing to fight back against Francisco and company, the team has yet to win a single game this season, while Kanoa earned its third in as many matches.

MP United 12, Southern United 3
MP United notched an easy win, too after dominating Southern United in the other game in the division.

Guinevere Borja was on target in their demolition of Southern United after making eight goals. McCallion added a pair, while Katrina Costales and Britany Wally chipped in one apiece.

Jerlyn Castillo scored two goals for Southern United, while Keisha Deleon Guerrero recorded one.
