Kanoa Football Club-2 was on target in the shootout to edge Paire FC, 3-2, during their Division A title match in the 2017 Dove Women’s Fall League last Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.

Chloe Salvosa, Britanny Wally, and Krizel Tuazon converted their shots in the deciding phase of the finale to help Kanoa-2 steal the division championships from Paire FC.

Paire boosted its title bid when it took a 2-0 halftime edge, thanks to Guine Borja’s pair of goals. Borja made her first goal in the 14th minute and the second in the closing minute of the first half.

In the second half, Kanoa-2 finally got its offense going when Gillian Villagomez found the back of the net just four minutes into the 20-minute period. Then two minutes later, it was Wally’s turn to light up the board to force the deadlock.

The game remained in a standoff after the regulation, bringing the finale into the shootout. Paire got off to a good start in the shootout when Borja connected, while Villagomez misfired. That was Kanoa-2’s only booboo in the shootout, as its next three shooters made their attempts count, while Paire’s gunners were on and off. Bernadette Horey faltered on her shot, while Jeraldine Castillo scored to keep Paire in the game. However, a miss from Jerlyn Castillo sealed the doom for Paire.

The loss in the Division A finals was a double black eye for Paire, which earlier fell short in the Division B title match, losing to Shirley’s, 1-2, also in a shootout.

Meanwhile, Kanoa also triumphed in the consolation matches in Divisions A and B last Friday.

In the battle for third place in Division A, Kanoa-1 eased past Shirley’s, 4-1. Mikky Vargas and Paulynn Joyce drilled two goals apiece for Kanoa-1 with the former getting her pair in the ninth and 33rd minute and the latter posting them in the 23rd and 25th minute. Diana Maniacop gave Shirley’s its lone goal when she scored in the 32nd minute.

While Kanoa-1 had an easier time winning the third place trophy, Kanoa had to go through a shootout to prevail against MY Pros in their Division B game, 1-0. Jenny Lee made the winning shot for Kanoa.

The Kanoa-MY Pros tiff went to a shootout after Marinel Falalimpa nailed the equalizer for the former in the 28th minute. Six minutes earlier, Natalie Hill put MY Pros on the board.
