(Walter Sutherland) Kagman High School continued its uphill climb in the 2011-2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Boys Volleyball League after beating Marianas High School KFC Fins in three sets last Wednesday at the MHS Gymnasium.

The win was fifth in a row for the Ayuyus, who dropped their first three games. Kagman now sits in third place in the team standings behind the undefeated Grace Christian Academy (8-0) and Saipan International School (7-2).

The Ayuyus lost the opening set, 24-26, but kept their winning run after ruling the last two sets, 25-9, 15-4. The MHS KFC Fins are still winless in eight games.

In other results, the GCA Eagles downed the SIS Geckos to keep their unbeaten record intact, while SIS recovered with a victory over Saipan Southern High School, 25-4, 25-20, 15-8.

The MHS QT’s outlasted sister team Awesome Fins for an even 4-4 slate. QT’s took the first set, 25-9, but stumbled in the second, 24-26, before regrouping in the deciding set, 15-12. After a promising start, the Awesome Fins are at the bottom half of the team standings with their 2-6 record, the same mark Southern holds.

Regular season games in the MISO volleyball league continue today with Southern taking on QT’s on the north court at 4:30pm and the Awesome Fins tangling with the KFC Fins on the south end. Then at 5:30pm, GCA faces the red hot KHS squad on the north court, while SIS duels Awesome Fins on the south end.
