Kagman High School returned to the winning column when it outlasted Saipan International School’s junior varsity side on Thursday night in the 2014 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Boys Volleyball League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Kagman pulled of a 25-22, 25-22 decision over the SIS Geckos to hike its win-loss record to 4-6.

The Ayuyus bounced back from three straight setbacks, the last an 18-25, 16-25 loss to the Grace Christian Academy Eagles on Tuesday.

Kagman needed to double up its defense in order to snatch the first set as SIS, which trailed for most part of the opening set, ran out of steam in the home stretch.

It was almost the same story in the second set.

Holding on to a 21-18 advantage, Kagman allowed SIS to threaten at 21-20 and the last time at 23-22.

The Ayuyus scored the last two points on consecutive errors by the Geckos to escape with the win.

In other results, Mt. Carmel School scored a 25-14, 25-12 victory over Marianas Baptist Academy in an all-varsity team match, while MHS junior varsity squad won by default against Saipan Southern High School JV. MBA escaped with a thrilling 23-25, 25-17, 15-11 triumph over SSHS in another all-varsity contest. Matches between SIS and GCA, and MHS and SSHS in the varsity division were still being played at press time.

In other results last Tuesday, SIS varsity team defeated MHS junior varsity, 25-11, 25-17, and Mt. Carmel’s varsity squad, 25-19, 25-19. The Geckos’ junior varsity side also scored a 25-13, 25-14 victory over their MHS counterparts. GCA tripped MVA, 25-16, 25-15, in an all-varsity pairing, while MHS varsity team won by default against SSHS junior varsity. (Jon Perez)
