The Junior Nationals roared past the CK Bears, 4-2, in the return of the 2023 Tan Holdings-Saipan Baseball League season Tuesday night at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

After about a two-week postponement due to the passing of Typhoon Mawar and illumination issues on the field, the season resumed with the youngsters of the NMI Junior National team taking home the W.

Leadoff man Joell Borja of the Junior Nationals had a free pass to the base on four balls and was immediately brought home off an RBI single by Achilles Evangelista.

The CK Bears had no such luck in the offense department as they were dealt 13 strikeouts by Junior Nationals pitcher Angelo Igitol and J.P. Sablan. They were shut down in the first four innings as only one batter, Angel Palacios, got on base from balls.

The Junior Nationals had a no hitter through the fifth inning until Jose Lizama hit an RBI single to tie up the game, 1-1. Back on the bat for the Junior Nationals, Borja hit a double and was brought home by an RBI single off Jylon Sablan.

J.R. Suel reached base on a Bears fielding error and came home for their third run that inning for a 4-1 game. The Junior Nationals tried to add more runs in the last two innings, but Bears pitcher J.J. Lizama struck out the side, walked two batters, but held them off.

The Junior Nationals didn’t need more runs, however, as the Bears were only able to score one more off an RBI single by Henry Lizama Jr.

The postponed games start from May 23 between the Bandits and Junior Nationals, Cardinals versus Falcons (May 24), Bears versus Braves (May 25), Natives versus Blue Jays (May 26), Junior Nationals versus Braves (May 30), Falcons versus Natives (May 31), and Brewers versus Comets (June 2).
