Judge orders closure of district court

Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona ordered yesterday the closure of the U.S. District Court for the NMI today because of the approaching Typhoon Mangkhut.

She cited the imminent risk of damaging winds as Typhoon Mangkhut approaches Saipan.

Manglona said the court will reopen at 1pm Tuesday, Sept. 11, “unless otherwise ordered.”

The judge noted that, as of yesterday, the island was in typhoon condition, which means destructive winds of 74 miles per hour or more are possible this afternoon.

Manglona said the CM/ECF electronic filing system will remain online, unaffected by this weather closure.
