The U.S. Immigration Court held hearings on 21 cases yesterday, including seven new removal cases.

Judge Clarence M. Wagner of Honolulu conducted the proceedings via video conference.

Saipan Tribune learned that Wagner found one respondent removable. The respondent, however, is seeking asylum and applying withholding of removal.

Two other respondents failed to appear but were given another hearing date. The judge continued most of the cases.

Of the seven new removal cases, six are Chinese nationals and one is an FSM national.

Last Thursday, Wagner also heard via video conference 13 removal cases on Saipan.

Hundreds of removal cases have been filed with the Saipan Immigration Court since the federalization law took effect on Nov. 28, 2009. Many of the respondents have criminal convictions.
