Juan Babauta takes SGA February Ace honors

Juan L. Babauta came away as the Saipan Golfer’s Association’s 2012 February Ace of the Month after the conclusion of the group’s monthly event held at the Marianas Country Club last Feb. 5.
After returning from a three-month break from the links, Babauta topped 16 other golfers. He managed one birdie in his round and finished with a field low 72 net score.
Babauta joins last month’s January Ace Bob Magofna in the ranks as both are now eligible to compete in SGA’s finale Ace of Aces tournament at the end of the season. Magofna also belted the furthest tee shot on designated long drive hole No. 2 and also bagged a birdie in the February event.
Ray San Nicolas finished second place by winning a tiebreaker over third placer Tony DeLeon Guerrero; both finished with a 73 net tally.
Other notables included a pair of birdies for hole No. 8’s closest to the pin winner Ray Dela Cruz; two birdies for Rick Kautz; a birdie for hole No. 12’s winner Ned Norita; a birdie for hole No. 16’s closest to the pin winner Tom Castro; hole No. 6’s closest to the pin winner Eun Jung Teack; and hole No. 11’s long drive winner Larry Deleon Guerrero.
Other results include Das Krishnan (74), Magofna (76), Frances Sablan (76), Frankie Pangelinan (77), Ray Dela Cruz (78), Kautz (79), Norita (79), Manny Sablan (80), Fajardo (81), Quitugua (81), Teack (81), DL Guerrero (83), Castro (85), and Ed Sablan (86).
The SGA March Ace event is tentatively scheduled for March 11 at Kingfisher Golf Links. Organizers are aiming for the second Sunday of every month for its ace tournaments. More details will be released when received.
