The 2nd JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League will open shop on July 11 at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium with 10 teams vying for this season’s championship.

Last year’s finalist Micronesian Brokers, Inc. will be back for next month’s opening and will be joined by fellow returnees Commonwealth Utilities Corp., Top Development, Inc., Joeten, Docomo Pacific, Saipan Ice, and McDonald’s. Completing the field are newcomers Tan Holdings, Mariana Resort, and Cape Air/United Airlines. Shirley’s Coffee Shop, which defeated MBI in the finals during the league’s inaugural season last year, 91-83, will be missing the second edition of the tournament, but some of its players are expected to team up with Tan Holdings members.

Participating teams are requested to send a representative to the July 5 technical meeting. Ground rules and schedule of matches will be discussed at the meeting. Competing squads are also asked to turn in their final rosters during the meeting.

Each squad is allowed to have a maximum of 12 players on its lineup. Players should be employees of the company they are representing and must get employment certification from their human resource department. The league sponsor will provide free uniforms to the 12 members of each squad.

Meanwhile, opening games on July 11 will be determined via raffle drawing. The first match will be played after the 4pm opening ceremony. The second game is expected to start at 8pm. Regular matches are scheduled every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the first game set at 6:30pm and the second one at 8pm.

JP World is hosting another league this year to show appreciation to its Mobil fleet card and wholesale customers.
