Jones, with one out and the Yankees staring at a 1-0 deficit, took Jon Tenorio’s third pitch and belted a three-run shot tagging along Chris Camacho, who reached first base on a Ricardo Dela Cruz error, and David Camacho, who walked.
Gary Cruz led things off for the Yankees with a single, but was tagged out while trying to steal second base on a 5-4 putout play.
Robert Bansil had a fielder’s choice and moved to third on a Jared Camacho double. Bansil later scored on a passed ball that sparked that 8-run scoring binge.
Jerome Delos Santos flied out to center for the second out. Pete Tomokane doubled and later crossed home plate on a double by Brian Camacho, who made it 7-1 on a Cruz single.
Cruz ended the Yankees’ scoring in the fourth on a Ben Flores error. David Camacho was out number three on a 5-3 putout play.
The Yankees scored five more runs in the eighth to finally put the game out of reach.
Tomokane went perfect at the plate, 4-for-4, with a double, while Delos Santos had four singles in six times at bat. Cruz also went 4-for-6, all singles.
Manny Cabrera, JP Sablan, and Franco Flores alternated in pitching duties for the Yankees.
Cabrera pitched four complete innings, including three shutout, holding the North Starz to one run on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Sablan pitched two innings in relief and was tagged with three runs on three hits, while striking out two and walking one. Flores finished the last two innings and struck out five, while giving up no runs on one hit.
Action continues tonight with the Jets taking on the Falcons at 7pm also at the “Tan Ko” baseball field.
In other news, SBL coordinator Tony Rogolifoi said they are looking for a sponsor that would help them fix the lights of the scoreboard at the Palacios ballfield. Interested companies or persons should get in touch with Rogolifoi at the Gilbert Ada Gymnasium. (Jon Perez)
