Marine Corps veteran Randy Takai Johnson has been selected for the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program and will be staying in Washington, D.C. for a week to kick off his two-year fellowship, working with the office of Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP).

The Wounded Warrior Program was established to create employment opportunities for veterans within the House of Representatives. This two-year fellowship provides veterans with experience and exposure to other job opportunities.

According to the program, the applicant must have been on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001, and has a 30 percent or greater service connected disability rating with less than 20 years of service. If the selected fellowship is located within a representative’s district, the appointment is contingent on the continuous representation in the U.S. House.

According to Johnson, he was chosen after a competitive interview process for the position.

Johnson graduated from Mount Carmel School in 2001 and was enlisted in the Marines in May 2003. He served for four years and did two tours in Iraq as a combat engineer, bomb detector, and also joined in different combat operations. Johnson is also a recipient of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He finished his bachelor’s degree in Information Technology in 2014, returned home to the Marianas and is now working for the American Red Cross NMI Chapter.
