Joeten Foundation awards $4K scholarships to 4 students

The Joeten Charitable Foundation yesterday awarded $4,000 worth of scholarships to four CNMI high school graduates.
The 2012 Joeten Charitable Foundation Scholarship recipients are James Masao Aono Deleon Guerrero of Mount Carmel School, Deveney Manglona Dela Cruz of Marianas High School, Lallane Casugay Guiao of Saipan Southern High School, and Christopher John Cabrera Santos of Kagman High School.
Foundation board trustees Clarence Tenorio, Priscilla Tenorio, Joeten marketing manager and buyer Frannie Demapan representing foundation president Frances T. Demapan, and Joeten Susupe market manager Darlene Macaranas presented each student a check worth $1,000.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Joeten Susupe office conference room yesterday.
The Joeten Charitable Foundation has been awarding scholarships to deserving high school graduates on Saipan since its inception in 1994.
James Deleon Guerrero, who will pursue his studies at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, was unable to make it to the presentation ceremony. He was represented by his father, Jesus Deleon Guerrero, who read a prepared statement on behalf of his son.
The daughter of Hilario and Regina Guiao, Lallane Guiao will major in Education in Wesleyan University in Middetown, Connecticut. Guiao said the Joeten scholarship would subsidize her travel expenses in the fall.
Deveney Dela Cruz, the daughter of Francisco and Lisa Dela Cruz, will major in education/communication at Saint Martin’s University in Washington. She described the scholarship as a “blessing.”
Christopher John Santos is set to leave for Grossmont College, a community college in San Diego, California where he will be taking up biology.
The students were accompanied by several family members during yesterday’s brief awarding ceremony.
